StageNet frequently asked questions
What does StageNet do?
StageNet is a purpose-built software platform for stage management, designed to support a production from the very beginning through to performance. From setting up a new show and preparing rehearsal information, to managing rehearsals, technical sessions and show calling, StageNet brings the key tools and production information together in one place. The result is a clearer, more efficient way to work — helping stage management teams stay organised, reduce duplication and keep the show running smoothly from first rehearsal to final curtain.
How can StageNet help with setting up a new show?
StageNet helps you get a new production up and running quickly by turning your existing script and production materials into a structured starting point. You can import a script from a PDF, Word document or scanned image, and StageNet will carry out a first-pass extraction of key information such as the characters and props referenced in the script. You can also upload an image of the ground plan and add stage furniture, helping you begin building the physical layout of the production within StageNet. StageNet can also work with music scores embedded within a script, although this functionality is currently in beta.
How can StageNet help with preparing rehearsal information?
StageNet helps you prepare the information needed to take a production into rehearsals, combining the script, stage layout, characters and blocking in one place. You can overlay the production ground plan with stage furniture such as tables, chairs and other set elements, and define the entrances and exits that will be used during the production. StageNet’s drag-and-drop blocking tools allow you to position characters on the stage and record their movements, including whether an actor is standing, sitting or lying down. StageNet can also automatically generate a character breakdown from the script, helping you see where characters appear throughout the production. Where an actor is playing more than one role, StageNet highlights potential conflicts, making it easier to identify and resolve issues before rehearsals begin.
How can StageNet help with managing rehearsals?
StageNet helps stage management teams keep blocking, script information and rehearsal notes organised as the production develops. You can work directly from the digital book, with one-click navigation allowing you to jump straight to any act or scene. Blocking can be recorded using drag-and-drop tools, with characters positioned on the ground plan and their posture recorded as standing, sitting or lying down. Entrances, exits and stage furniture can be incorporated into the ground plan, helping the book reflect what is actually happening in the rehearsal room. For music-based productions, StageNet can also link blocking to bars, beats or lyrics within the score. This feature is currently in beta.
How can StageNet help with technical sessions?
StageNet is designed to make building and refining the prompt book during technical rehearsals faster and more precise. Cues and notes can be added directly to the script, with StageNet suggesting standbys and cue groupings to help organise complex sequences. Cues can be linked to individual words, syllables or even the gaps between words, allowing the book to reflect exactly where an action needs to happen. For musical productions, cues and blocking can also be linked to bars, beats or lyrics within the score. This functionality is currently in beta. A rehearsal report is available directly on screen, with rehearsal timings and time-stamped notes captured as you work. The report can then be exported for further editing or distribution if required.
How can StageNet help with show calling and performances?
When the production moves into performance, StageNet provides a dedicated locked performance mode, helping to prevent accidental changes being made to the prompt book while the show is running. Before the performance, a paper copy of the book can also be exported as a backup, providing additional reassurance if it is ever needed. During the show, the show report is available directly on screen. Stage management can record the start and finish times of the show, individual scenes and intervals, as well as create time-stamped notes as events happen. Once the performance is complete, the show report can be exported for further editing, circulation or distribution to the wider production team.
Who can use StageNet?
StageNet is designed for stage managers, deputy stage managers, makers, company managers, and the wider production collaborators who need a shared view of the work.
How does an account work?
Create an account to get started, then set up or join a production when invited. Your access follows the productions and collaborations you are part of.
Can I subscribe to a show's diary in my calendar?
Yes. Open the show's Production Calendar and select Subscribe to add the diary to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook, or copy the private calendar link into another compatible calendar app. The subscription updates automatically when diary entries are added, edited or deleted, including multi-day entries. Because anyone with the private link can read the diary, only share it with people who are authorised to see the production.
What is the subscription?
Production owners choose a monthly or annual subscription. Current prices are shown in the billing area after account setup. Invited collaborators can work on a production without buying their own owner seat.
Is there a drama-school discount?
Yes. Eligible current students and staff can receive discounted owner pricing. A verified email from a supported drama school qualifies automatically, with an application route available when an institutional address cannot be used.
What is the beta access period?
New registrations made from 4 September through 30 November 2026 receive free access during the StageNet beta. No card is required, no payment method is stored and no automatic charge will occur. Beta access is available once per verified email. After the beta period ends, choose a monthly or annual paid plan to continue as a production owner.
Can I invite collaborators?
Yes. Owners can invite collaborators into their production so the people making the work can see and contribute to the information they need.
